Your Essential Guide

About your Wellness Walk

Starting from Exhibition Park, you’ll head towards St James’ Park and the Life Science Centre. You’ll then go towards the Quayside and zig zag across two of the Tyne’s most famous bridges. Walking past some of the cities iconic sights including Greys monument, Theatre Royal and many more. You’ll complete your walk once again in the beautiful Exhibition Park and receive your well-deserved medal at our Finisher’s Area.

By signing up to take part in a Wellness Walk you will be fundraising to support all those living with diabetes.

How do I get there?
There are many ways to get to Exhibition Park, but make sure you check your route beforehand and leave plenty of time. If you want to use ‘What3words’ to find the exact location of the event venue, please use ///silk.else.adults

We want to make sure our events are as environmentally friendly as possible, so we encourage you to use public transport if you can.

By public transport
Wellness Walk Newcastle-Gateshead is located conveniently close to Jesmond and West Jesmond Metro stations.

There are also various bus stops located outside of the park which run from Newcastle City Centre. If traveling from Newcastle station, we advise you get on at Central Station Westgate Road to Great North Road-Clayton Road. From there it’s a 4-minute walk to Exhibition Park.

By road
Please use public car parks near to Exhibition Park. These include: Claremont Road Car Park NE2 4AA and Eldon Square multi- storey NE1 7RZ.

Newcastle-Gateshead Facilities
  • Toilets are available at the start and finish at Exhibition Park
  • Wheelchair friendly
  • Water refills available
  • Medical assistance
  • Hypo snacks available for those that require it along the route
  • Well behaved dogs on short leads are allowed

The route is on tarmac or concrete paths and pavements, making the route wheelchair accessible. There are numerous roads to cross, please follow all guidance from our marshals to make sure the route is safe for everyone.

Please bring your own reusable water bottle filled. We have removed single-use plastic bottles of water from our start and finish, and instead we can provide water re-fills for you to top up and stay hydrated!

Training for Wellness Walk Newcastle-Gateshead
  • Wellness Walk isn’t about being first across the finish line; this is a friendly, non-competitive event. You’ll come together with like-minded people from the diabetes community, all prioritising wellness, at the same time as raising funds to support those affected by diabetes.

Paying your registration fee helps us cover the cost of putting on your Wellness Walk, but it’s your fundraising which can really make a difference. Support those with diabetes live better for longer by aiming to raise £150 by taking part in a Wellness Walk.
